Interview with the Kraftum Team the creators of Star Loop

Star Loop is a game created by “what may be” the fastest developer team in the world! In our initial interview we mentioned how the icon didn’t really show users the awesome game it was representing, two to three days later and the icon was updated. (See icon above “It looks awesome😉 “)

With a lightning fast response rate, and an insanely talented designer, we’re truly can’t wait to see where this new indie studio is going.

Original Review -> Check it out!

Before we start, we’d like to thank the Kraftum Team for participating in our interview, and for spending some of their valuable time answering our questions. Thanks guys.

Now without any further ado our interview begins.

Ok first up, why did you decide to make Star Loop?

Well, we were looking to publish a small game in order to learn all the aspects in the game creation life cycle, including online services, publishing, and of course, promotion. Then, after some work, we crafted a prototype with a clear potential, and finally we released the game one month later.

Therefore, we achieved our goal to obtain the necessary experience to tackle future larger projects that we are working on.

Cool, so what programming language and or software did you use when making Star Loop?

We are using Unity3D for all our projects, and code the scripts with C#. We love it, it’s great to be able to use a high level OOP programming language. But the most amazing feature is clearly the direct portability to any device (iOS / Android in our case).

Ok, here is a difficult question. What was the hardest problem you needed to overcome when developing Star Loop?

We dealt with different problems, of course, but if we talk in terms of time spent in solving issues, the biggest was the optimization for Android devices. We applied a lot of solutions, including code refactoring, fixing FPS to 30, pooling techniques, GI simplification, etc.

Last question. Where do you get your inspiration or ideas from?

Mainly, arcade games like Galaxian or Asteroids, or modern classics like Geometry Wars, were very important references, since we are trying to revive the soul of the 80’s games. However, the concept of the elliptical movement in Star Loop came when we tried to craft a space shooter but instead of using the classical shooter (horizontal or vertical) we aimed to fit panoramic screens.

Maybe, Sunset Overdrive (a superb game) influenced us a little bit with the idea to make the user focus on the shooting, forbidding the player from controlling their ship for a while. Finally, any fan of Remedy Studios, like us, could easily guess where the inspiration for the Bullet Time comes from.

A few words to Star Loop fans on Edamame Reviews.

Indeed, we are excited with the positive feedback that we are receiving, which will helps us to add more free content to Star Loop in the near future, as we added the evolved mode last week.

Star Loop is only the beginning. We are currently working on two future titles (one for mobile devices and another for PC/Consoles), thanks to the lessons learned, we will be able to improve the quality and impact of these games.

It is too early to say more about them, but if you are interested, we promise that they will be outstanding indie games, and of course, without losing our own style. We will publish more news soon, please stay tuned and follow us in the social networks!

Lastly a few words on how you feel about Edamame Reviews and our service.

Thanks again for your great work, we think you fill an important gap between developers and users, because without reviews users are not aware or well informed about all the new games in the mobile sector.
