slither.io by Steve Howse – Review

Normally, Edamame Reviews is pretty high up when it comes to new games. Normally we’re able to find what’s trending NOW, and are able to bring it to your attention… Normally… Better late then never, this is our review of slither.io

Slither.io is an interesting game in the sense that it isn’t a mobile game. Slither.io is actually a browser based game, and is thus playable on a PC, Mobile, Console, anything that has a browser “should” work. – Ok, maybe not a 3DS or first gen iPhone…

If you happen to be reading this on a pc, why not give it a try before continuing?

Welcome back(?) was it cool? If you were one of the small group that were actually able to come back – fight the addiction! – you probably noticed that this game looks a lot like the good old game Snake, just some of the rules are a little different.

In Snakes, if you hit a wall, or yourself – which gets easier and easier to do as you get longer and longer – “Game Over”. In Slither.io things are a little different. “The Edge Of The World” is way off in the distance meaning you can’t die hitting it – Unless you actually want die!? – and crashing into yourself is no problem at all, so how do you “die” in Slither.io?

Well, it’s actually pretty simple. Hit another snake in the side and game over, that’s the only thing that can kill you, and kill you it will! You see, unlike other games where every enemy is controlled by a simple predictive AI, slither.io is made up of people, hundreds of thousands of unpredictable, snake hungry people! These crazy people will attack you from all directions imaginable trying to get you to accidently bump into them.

So, how do you defend yourself? Grow bigger. The bigger you get the harder it will be for smaller snakes to take you out, survival of the fittest.

Slither.io definitely isn’t a hard game. You’ll die a lot, but every time you die you’ll have to admit, it is due to your stupidity, or carelessness, or lack of speed. Not because the game is hard.

It is probably the way this game brings out human errors that makes this game so very fun and addictive.

If you’re like us – a little late – why not start now? The party has only just begun!
