Interview with the Rinikulous Games Team, the creators of LONELY SUN

LONELY SUN is an amazingly beautiful platformer game that is so difficult it will haunt you at night…💀 (Ok, maybe it’s not that bad…)

If you love difficult challenges this is the game for you! After numerous attempts by our review team, we managed to get super close to clearing stage 1 once (the easiest stage in the entire game) before we well and truly gave up… for now…😠

Today we would like to share with you our interview with the Rinikulous Games Team the creators of LONELY SUN.

Before we start, we’d like to thank Nik Mihaylov from the Rinikulous Games Team for participating in our interview, and for spending some of his valuable time answering our questions. Thanks Nik!

Now without any further ado, our interview begins.

So, how long have you been making Apps or Games for?

Together both me (Nik – @rinikulous) and my partner (Steven – @staticsteven) have been creating digital solutions (mobile apps) for a couple of years now. We’re digital professionals each working for an experience design agency by day, and by night we experiment with mobile game creation – gameplays, interfaces, interaction models…

Cool, so is this your studio’s first creation?

Lonely Sun is our very first collaborative (passion) iOS project. It took us about 7 months from concept to App Store submission. It’s been quite the journey but a very enlightening one I must say. That’s why we’re already working on another project called Hyper Beam.

We can’t wait to check Hyper Beam out!

Next question, what do you use to make your apps or games?

We use multiple tools depending on what the project is. For example, Lonely Sun was created primarily with Unity, Blender, Audacity, Xcode, Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere.

Awesome! So, tell us about your app!

Lonely Sun is not a fast-paced target and take down the enemy kind of game. We wanted to create something beautiful with a simple premise that promises you some difficulty, something that allows you to take your time and go at your own pace. That said, cosmic creation was the perfect metaphor to convey our core concept: visualize life’s complicated nature, tribulations and hurdles, and the idea of patience. You’re the guiding hand of gravity, and as such, it is your job to collect planet cores, grow big enough to orbit the lonely sun and bring each planet to life. Why? Well, every star needs company.

Overall, the game is casual, doesn’t put a lot of pressure on you but if you die you start over – there are no checkpoints, just like in life.

Wonderful! Thanks for your amazing interview guys!
