Interview with Ganesh Mamadapur the creator of Chase & Hunt

For all of you who have read our review of Chase & Hunt, you’ll know how awesome a game it is!

Today we’d like to share with you our interview with the developer of this incredible game Ganesh Mamadapur.

During our interview we were told a number of surprising things, such as the fact that the entire framework for Chase & Hunt was custom made by the developer! If you know anything about game development you’ll know just how incredible this is!

Anyway, we’ll let you discover the rest…

Before we start we’d like to say a big thank you to the developer for kindly taking the time to answer our interview questions, “Thank you very much.”

Now, without any further ado, here is our interview with Ganesh Mamadapur- the creator of Chase & Hunt.

Ok first up, why did you decide to make Chase & Hunt?

From a very young age, I’ve loved playing games. In the last few years that has materialized into something more serious. Having played PC games like Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age, I was deeply inspired by the rich details and unrushed and immersive gameplay experience. However, their length and time demanding nature required a large amount of commitment from the player. With Chase & Hunt, we worked to bring the same experience in a shorter condensed way, where a player can play from start to finish and have a sense of completion. We also wanted to push the boundaries of technical capabilities while designing for mobile devices with Chase & Hunt.

I see, so what programming language and or software did you use when making Chase & Hunt?

Chase & Hunt has been developed using C, C++ and Objective C. It runs on a custom built engine, built from scratch and optimized specifically for great performance on mobile devices.

Ok, here is a mean question. What was the hardest problem you needed to overcome when developing Chase & Hunt?

Chase & Hunt is our first foray into game development so we saw through quite a few challenges, but in particular, we worked very hard with scaling UI for various screen sizes and to develop intuitive and engaging AI pathing algorithms.

Last question. Where do you get your inspiration or ideas from?

I found a lot of inspiration from my own gaming experiences. I also read avidly and follow other people’s processes to understand how it influences the work that they do. I am constantly in search of ideas and techniques that allow me to perfect my work.
