Hop Swap – A puzzling double-sided platformer

Do you enjoy playing “platformer” games on your mobile device? …Surprisingly a lot of people don’t… Due to the lack of physical buttons, a lot of players find platformer games on mobile just plain annoying! So when nitrome released its newest game – a mobile platformer – we had to give it a try…

Hop Swap is an amazingly intuitive mobile platformer game. Played using simple swipe gestures to control your player, everything in this game seems to just make sense. (After a little practice that is.) “Why?” Because it is entirely based on a “slightly modified” version of 2D physics…

Hop Swap is a game about swapping dimension. Set on a platform made of two dimensions – one above and one below – your mission in this game is to skillfully swap between these two dimensions in order to make your way around each level without dying, and silly as this may sound, it all makes sense!

Although we doubt most players who play this game have ever visited another dimension, to most players this game should still make sense! You see, in order to to switch between dimensions, all you will be required to do is simply swipe up/down on the screen of your device in order to fall – up or down – into the opposite dimension. (If only time travel was this easy…)

When this happens, whatever physical property your player is currently experiencing (i.e Momentum, Height, Speed, etc) are all carried over to the alternate dimension sometimes killing your player, and sometimes seriously coming in handy! You see, if there is a wall too high to jump to, you could potentially switch detentions, jump on a spring, switch back, and shoot your way over a wall using a spring that doesn’t exist in that dimension…

Although Hop Swap is titled a platformer, to a degree it is actually a puzzle game.

If you enjoy games that require you to think outside the box, Hop Swap is an interesting blend of action and puzzle which may just be exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
