Are you in need of a simple (One Touch) runner game for your smartphone with 3 years of development history and 99% more functionality to come? Well, this may just be the “only” game for you…

Today we would like to share with you our interview with the UKI Games Team, the developers of Dash Legends. Check out our review here.

Before we start, we’d like to thank the UKI Games Team for participating in our interview, and for spending some of their valuable time answering our questions. Thanks guys!

Now without any further ado, our interview begins.

The Interview

Ok first up, why did you decide to make Dash Legends?

We were ready for the next big challenge. When we sat down and thought about it, the whole thing suddenly exploded with ideas. The heroes were born out of long discussions about adventures and mythology. And then we just followed the vibe. It was one of those moments where you just let it go. After 3 years of active development, we still have like 1% of what was initially designed.

Can you tell us a little about how the visuals were made in Dash Legends?

We were inspired by the concept of Worlds! Each world in Dash Legends comes with its own heroes and pets. We built it as a micro-universe of its own. Even the skills will adapt based on which world you play in. As fortunate as we were, along came a very talented artist named Stoyan Stoyanov. With just a few concepts we were able to nail what we wanted: cartoony adventure, cute power. The character design was made by another super awesome artist Illina Simova. You can feel the uniqueness when you see it. Again with just the first iteration, we got what we wanted. It was a flow really, not a struggle.

What advice would you give a new player trying Dash Legends for the first time?

Just play 3 races. After the first one, you typically wouldn’t get to the first place. However, with just a few races, you get significantly better. The reaction we normally get is: Wow, I finished 4th the first time and now I always win. The mechanics are really very simple, just a tap.

Ok, now for some geeky questions.
What programming language and or software did you use when making Dash Legends?

Dash Legends was planned for more than 6 months before anything was really put into development. We were testing different technology stacks at the time. The game itself is more or less a service since it features everything that a typical business app has.

After trying out pretty much everything we decided to build with Node.js, Unity3D, and MongoDB. So one can immediately conclude we tried to stick to 2 languages to improve consistency – C#, and JS. Regardless of any tech biases, we managed to build what we wanted in a super optimized timeframe.

Here is a difficult question. What was the hardest problem you needed to overcome when developing Dash Legends?

Neither crashing, lag, scaling nor screen sizes were hard. I mean in the sense of something unexpected. Those are very well documented and if properly designed shouldn’t be much of a surprise. The HARD part can be summarized in one word: Endurance. And that is a human factor. None of the technical problems were even close, compared to what you need to manage on a personal level. Can you keep yourself focused for 3 years?

Last question. Where do you get your inspiration or ideas from?

Easy one – the flow. There is a certain flow in the universe which we usually don’t register. And for good. But once you put yourself in “focus mode”, you find that there is inspiration in every single thing you can think of. So much information out there, your brain just keeps making connections.

A few words to Dash Legends fans on Edamame Reviews.

Have a few races. The game has its depth, but one should experience it first hand.

Lastly a few words on how you feel about Edamame Reviews and our service.
