Interview with the Tembo Team, the creators of Danger Bounce

Did you enjoy Flappy Bird? If so, chances are you’ll love Danger Bounce! With a similar yet fundamentally different gameplay system to the popular Flappy Bird, this game may seem familiar, but is entirely new!

Today we would like to share with you our interview with the amazing developers of this new yet familiar game.

If you’d like to check out our review of Danger Bounce, you can do that here.

Before we start, we’d like to thank the Tembo Team for participating in our interview, and for spending some of their valuable time answering our questions. Thanks guys!

Now without any further ado, our interview begins.

Ok first up, why did you decide to make Danger Bounce?

When we were planning to develop a game, we were planning to create something that is addictive. Sometimes repetitive behavior can be very addictive, it’s proven. There are many successful games that use this trick. We wanted to incorporate this into one of our games, and we came up with Danger Bounce.

So, why did you decide to use minimalist graphics when making Danger Bounce?

We wanted to make things as simple as possible. When a user sees minimalistic graphics in a game, he immediately assumes this game is all about simple mechanics and has particularly one goal. Danger Bounce fulfills these criteria.

It is pretty obvious this game was inspired by Flappy Bird. How did you come up with the idea/ideas that changed Danger Bounce into an entirely new game?

Coming up with an entirely new idea/ideas is really hard nowadays. You have to model and improve existing games and their mechanics. This game closely resembles Flappy Bird, that’s true, but not entirely. We modeled and improved. Our actual inspiration was Ketchapp’s Amazing Thief.

Both games’ mechanics and goals are simple like Danger Bounce. However, instead of following the existing traditional look of these games, we chose a new gameplay of bouncing. We have also added a ninja theme to it. All of these certainly gave a new gaming experience.

OK, now for some geeky questions. What programming language and or software did you use when making Danger Bounce?

We used Buildbox to develop Danger Bounce, (the most successful drag and drop game builder.) The cool thing about Buildbox is that it reduces development time, and once you create your game, you can make it compatible with a variety of devices. For a game like Danger Bounce that should take less development time, Buildbox is the perfect tool. It actually took us three working days to finish the main structure of the entire game!

Ok, here is a difficult question. What was the hardest problem you needed to overcome when developing Danger Bounce?

With this kind of game, we have to ensure that it looks like that the colorful pillars are generating randomly and also that does not give any impossible condition. We spent a lot of time to ensure that.

Last question. Where do you get your inspiration or ideas from?

We try to play games whenever we get time. If some game catches our attention, we discuss what is missing in this game, where we can add something, how we can improve the gameplay. We sketch roughly and make a prototype consisting of some levels. We play ourselves and decide if it is really worth developing. We also get our ideas from review sites like Edamame, toucharcade, gamejolt etc. Sometimes Sci-fi movies are a source of our inspiration as well.

Lastly a few words on how you feel about Edamame Reviews and our service.

We did not expect someone could give such a sincere and detailed review, that Edamame has given us. One sentence that can express our feelings about the review “Edamame gave a review that we can not make about our own game”
